I’m free to fly….

Fly…into another weekend and another week flown by… It has a repeating ring to it doesn’t it! A beautiful Spring morning here in the country and just a little time to smell and pick the roses. And so joining in another Pink Saturday, I thought I’d style a couple of Spring photo shots with a little romantic flow to it. A personal touch, I’ve been working on a combination of my photography and pen work…create…I’m free to fly… “The gift of happiness belongs to those who unwrap it.” Andrew Dunbar Rose petals, pearls, lace and pink….a little romantic pink! “Happiness is a gift and the trick is not to expect it, but to delight in it when it comes”  Charles Dickens Happy Pink Saturday friends…linking to Beverly’s Pink Saturday at  How Sweet the Sound. Have a great weekend. Yvette…x

A trail of Inspiration.

My starting point for this trail of inspiration not more than 24hours ago lead me onto many winding paths of colour, inspiration and acknowledgement of pure talent. One of the things on my ‘to do’ list was that for this month I would stay focused and blog a post every Saturday on Beverly’s Pink Saturday for the month of October as a reminder of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Take a couple of ‘clicks’ backwards, and although I’m not always finding time to post and create, within the solitude of my bedroom of an evening, I visit bogging friends, leave comments and join in the circle of friendship, that I so love to be a part of. Here’s my winding trail: I started with a visit to Celia at Fig Jam and Lime Cordial, where she had her  monthly feature look at what’s ‘In my Kitchen’, Turkish ceramics, wild ginger drinks, and vegetarian paella to name a few, take a look and maybe join in. Sometimes when you visit friends, you spend a little extra time …

Early Start…The Liebster Award

Nothing like a spectacular electric storm to see you out to morning. The sky was certainly a brilliant display of white fireworks, and disturbing anger last night, after a few days of extra hot early Spring weather, everything has cooled down and calm for this morning. I find myself awake early, and within the silence of the early morning I have time to visit  and cyber chat with friends. I’ve been nominated by my friend Mandy, from The Complete Cook Book for The Liebster Award. Mandy and myself crossed paths early this year, commenting on varying common blogs together, we both have a passion for those things that enrich our lives from the kitchen. She continually supports, encourages and inspires me with her cooking, so take a few minutes to visit her blog. She shares excerpts from her family copy of ‘Woman’s Home Companion Cook Book, her last post is Part 8 from the book and can be found here. She’s even written her own book and epigraph: Recipes for favourite dishes are passed down through family …

Virtual InSpiration.

I don’t know about you, but I have a huge collection of my favourite blog sites, that I continuously visit, on my computer. I have bought (lost count) so many hardcover books, and stacked them in corners and displayed them on coffee tables and book shelves. I have suitcases of magazines and scrapbooks of pages. Too heavy to move! Do you have story boards of your favourite photo’s, your dream home, or places to visit, your favourite recipes, your colour palette of love, dreaming and maybe even lust….its not a wish list ( is it? )  it’s beyond that …it’s a convoy of  trucks… loads of wishes. OK, so a story board in front of your face all day is fine, a little cluttered, a little messy. Or the front of the fridge is all magnated out, and there’s no more space. Here’s a great way to make inspirational boards of your favourite things. Have you come across Pinterest or follow someone on Pinterest. Come follow me…here. The best part is that any photo you find …

A Circle of friends

Sometimes life gets so busy, we change, things change us. Sometimes directions in life are easy, sometimes a little harder. We all set ourselves goals, day by day, week by week…month by month…and even next year. Every week I set myself some weekly goals to visit my circle of friends. Those whose blogs I adore to look at, read, comment and get inspired from. Our circles of friends are all different. We all have different passions. Those who write poems, who create in their kitchens, who paint, who make tea, who capture things through the lens…and you my friend, are part of my circle, and how lonely my life would be without you. Today, I wanted to share with you, a reflective corner of blue and white. The changing blue skies and those soft romantic white clouds, are finally appearing and reflecting a new Spring/ Summer . “The whole earth was brimming sunshine that morning. She tripped along, the clear sky pouring liquid blue into her soul”  Theodore Dreiser Blue and White china mugs…can’t …

TT – Spring Blossom ‘Crackerjack’ eDition

Spring is on its way…Yeehaw! This weeks Texture Tuesday  party challenge with Kim Klassen is that we have to incorporate her new texture ‘crakerjack’. It’s a FUNtastic texture giving a photo a glazed crackle effect. I love this effect and let me tell you, to actually get this effect on any of your arty crafty objects it takes time and patience, waiting for paint to dry and the crackle  effect to magically appear. So much easier with a add button in our photographic software, with combinations of all sorts of adjustments to light and tones. I couldn’t decide on which one I liked the most, so I uploaded all three… What’s your opinion, tell me which one caresses your emotions and inspires Spring Fever. A cloudless sky, a world of heather. Purple of foxglove, yellow of broom; We two among it, wading together, Shaking out honey, treading perfume. Crowds of bees are giddy with clover Crowds of grasshoppers skip at our feet, Crowds of larks at their matins hangover, Thanking the Lord for a life so …

Baking Vanilla Apple Cake

My goodness, its been a while since I’ve baked something, so I’m happy to share this moment with you. The sun was shining through the windows and the kitchen had a warming magnetism, and in my head I could hear a voice saying come on Yvette, get creative and make something delicious for morning tea.   So not resisting, I made something that I know the children love as well. The fruit bowl had an overload of apples, so the choice was easy Vanilla Apple Cake. This my friends is a little something, petite isn’t it. It’s a Royal Albert petite china Christmas decoration. Design ‘Old Country Roses’. The little cup is actually joined to the saucer and has a beautiful ribbon with embossed gold calligraphy. Can you imagine your Christmas tree decorated with these and full of fairy lights. I know you won’t be able to resist this apple cake, so read on for the recipe…
