Just a little card…

I was introduced to my first scrapbooking lesson at a local craft store in my small home country town.Chook scraps is a local craft store full of innovative ideas for any scrapbooking, card making and stamping – decorative hobbies, supplying quality supplies and kits for even the new hobbyist. Read Chook scraps blog here. I’ve been collecting so many wonderful coloured sheets of paper for so long I could probably open my own craft store. Never having done the practical side, myself and my sister enrolled in a class. What fun! It truly is a new concept of design for me,one I would call therapeutic. There are so many templates and designs available that it’s only up to your imagination and your creative mind that’s stopping you from making so many things.Following the guide from our teacher, we tackled our first attempt in this paper fantasy world. Our aim was to make a yearly card journal, 12 pages for each month with a reminder pocket of special birthday dates on each page, with the incentive …

Innovation

To make changes by introducing something new. Innovate. With enthusiasm and a small adventure in hand, myself and my best friend Trish were asked to judge a local art show “Art in the Park” in the south west town of Busselton, Western Australia. I’ve shown photo’s of this beautiful Aussie paradise before in my mosaic photo post here. The photo in the middle is the Busselton jetty. This annual event was celebrating it’s 51st year, with over three hundred entries.  With a beautiful sunny morning, we started out early and on arrival we were greeted with a wonderful, inspiring and talented display of local and south west region artists, who had used every medium, every imaginable colour on the colour palette and an array of subject matter. Our choice on behalf of the Hemsley family was the award for the most innovative. Our choice was a painting done by local artist Denny Sanbrook. Her entries in the art show were numerous and very eye catching, using mixed medium with subtle colours showing a visual presentation …

I love my sunburnt country

Today we celebrate Australia Day. A day for all Australians to celebrate our nation and be proud to be Australian. Flying our nations flag and for some the day our newest Australians become citizens, calling Australia home. It’s a day of family and friends celebrating in the comfort of their homes or at an organized local ceremony, usually an early morning raising of the flag and the singing of the national anthem, followed by an all Australian Aussie breakfast, or the all Australian barbecue. Today was a scorching 42 degrees here in New South Wales. We would normally do the same by having a bbq but the heat was just too much to handle. So we opted for an inside and air conditioned celebration of Australian seafood. Prawns with prawn cocktail sauce, oysters kilpatrick, squid  served two ways, deep fried squid rings in crunchy breadcrumbs and salt and pepper squid and smoked salmon. A great starter to a very long and hot day. Hope every Aussie had a wonderful day. A day to be proud …

Stressed Out?

Take 2 cups of coffee in a mayonnaise jar… When things in your life seem too much to handle, when 24 hours  in a day is not enough, remember the mayonnaise and 2 cups of coffee.   A professor stood before his philosophy class And had some items in front of him When the class began, wordlessly He picked up a very large And empty mayonnaise jar And proceeded to fill it with golf balls.   He then asked the students If the jar was full. They agreed that it was full.   The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled in the open areas between the golf balls.   He then asked the students again If the jar was full They agreed it was.   The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else. He asked once more if the jar was full. The students …

In Gratitude

As the hands of the clock tick over twelve the start of the new year adorns. Thinking over the past year, of the passing moments and memories, the transparent memories of last year had all it’s usual challenges and more. A reflective year, a breaking year…a year full of love, happiness, sadness, and loss. A rollercoaster of emotions, of growing up even in my forty something year. Taking the challenge of expressing my creativity of photography, food and life. The past year I’ve grown with love in strength to take the little challenges in life of expressing gratitude in my little world for the “little” things that can make a world of difference. Looking back through my blog, I have had many highlights and expressions of the seasonal changes through the lens of the camera and the creative visual displays I’ve done, I so much enjoyed creating a visual magazine and sharing it all with you. I thank you all for visiting me within the first year of blogging and wish everyone all the best for …

One day at a time….

Day Seven Prompt: “The darkness of the whole world cannot swallow the glowing of a candle.” – Robert Altinger I started this journey the last week with new friends, sharing our thoughts together about a special time of the year…it was a week of trying to set the mood of a joyous time of the year, but to no avail. My Dad passed away this weekend, after a long time suffering. Destiny had its will, I didn’t get to see him, hold his hand, kiss his forehead, or even say a little prayer before his last breath. I didn’t have wings to fly across the distance… I was with him in August sharing the memories of good times, hoping there might have been a longer time for us to share them, laugh and cry together. My Dad was a man of strength fighting with dignity against his illness, holding back the pain.No more suffering…no more pain. What we once enjoyed and deeply loved we can never lose, for all that we love deeply becomes a part …

A smile of pure contentment of feeling free, and happy of seeking pleasure in the magical world of natural beauty. Everything that’s covered in snow is new again , pristine and glistening. The single rose,  her everlasting beauty even in the coldest of temperatures, her petals iced over her thorns unseen…the light in my garden covered in icicles a golden glimmer amongst a snow covered path…Lost amid the snow.
