Just a little card…

I was introduced to my first scrapbooking lesson at a local craft store in my small home country town.Chook scraps is a local craft store full of innovative ideas for any scrapbooking, card making and stamping – decorative hobbies, supplying quality supplies and kits for even the new hobbyist. Read Chook scraps blog here. I’ve been collecting so many wonderful coloured sheets of paper for so long I could probably open my own craft store. Never having done the practical side, myself and my sister enrolled in a class. What fun! It truly is a new concept of design for me,one I would call therapeutic. There are so many templates and designs available that it’s only up to your imagination and your creative mind that’s stopping you from making so many things.Following the guide from our teacher, we tackled our first attempt in this paper fantasy world. Our aim was to make a yearly card journal, 12 pages for each month with a reminder pocket of special birthday dates on each page, with the incentive …

In Gratitude

As the hands of the clock tick over twelve the start of the new year adorns. Thinking over the past year, of the passing moments and memories, the transparent memories of last year had all it’s usual challenges and more. A reflective year, a breaking year…a year full of love, happiness, sadness, and loss. A rollercoaster of emotions, of growing up even in my forty something year. Taking the challenge of expressing my creativity of photography, food and life. The past year I’ve grown with love in strength to take the little challenges in life of expressing gratitude in my little world for the “little” things that can make a world of difference. Looking back through my blog, I have had many highlights and expressions of the seasonal changes through the lens of the camera and the creative visual displays I’ve done, I so much enjoyed creating a visual magazine and sharing it all with you. I thank you all for visiting me within the first year of blogging and wish everyone all the best for …

Welcome Autumn

Welcome Autumn. Tuesday here saw the start of Autumn. Falling leaves, changing colours and chilly temperatures on their way. There are so many wonderful changes in the garden.Leaves, seedpods, berries, acorns and with all these wonderful changes to the eye there’s the changing acoustics, the rustling leaves of falling freely, crunching and kicking of leaves underfoot, changing melodies of Winter birds. “Winter is an etching, spring a watercolor, summer an oil painting  and autumn a mosaic of them all.” –   Stanley Horowitz   This Autumn wreath was made with all the findings of this time of the year from the garden and we’ve just starting harvesting our corn crops. Hence these rustic looking corn flowers, made from corn husks, one hint on making these always remember to spray them with hair spray or fixing spray, otherwise beasties will eat them and the wreath won’t last for the following year. I love the natural colours of the corn flowers, however they can be spray painted also.   Because a garden mean constantly making choices, it offers almost limitless possibilities for …

Summer Tutorial

Our Summer days are here, and how I long for blue oceans, waves and a little vacation time. Sun, sand, beaches,an Australian slogan from a sun protection campaign: slip, slop, slap always comes to mind, pebbled beaches, and shells…shells! When I see shells, my minds reflections are always of Summer. For the last few weeks I’ve had a Summer blue and white theme throughout my home…summer dinner table settings, ocean themes, and here is my shell starfish. This is my first tutorial, and wanted to share this with you my friends…time is precious I know, but if you can find an afternoon to dabble in a few things creative, this shell starfish is for you… Materials to start with, you’ll need a Styrofoam star, hot glue gun and a variety of shells, and I used neutral coloured ribbon cream and grey.   Cut a 10cm long piece of ribbon and make a loop at one point of the star with your hot glue… Proceed to cover the whole styrofoam star in a wider ribbon, winding and gluing as you go around the five points and move …

Iced Centerpiece

This centerpiece is just fabulous to jazz up your fresh fruit an ice-cream platter.Made from a silicone cake mould, its very simple to make. There are so many designs nowadays available in silicone, your choice is unlimited. Here’s how to prepare your centerpiece. I used this one,a flower and bow design, also as wreath design it has a hole in the middle to serve ice-cream,cream or yoghurt. Fill the mould with water or fruit juice, add fresh small fruits  such as blueberries, strawberries,or pieces of chopped fruit and mint leaves, place on tray and leave overnight in the freezer. When frozen your iced shape is easily removed from the silicone. Fill the platter with assorted fresh fruit, place scooped ice-cream in the center and wow! Easy Entertaining, and a fun Summer Dessert. It’s also a great way to keep your Summer punch iced. Just place the iced mould into you punch bowl and it keeps it cool and iced for the rest of your serving time. Enjoy my friends, and happy entertaining!
