[Texture Tuesday] Black and White eDition

b&w

Marshmallow Velvet

We are surrounded by colour every day…and often everything around us seems complicated. So for a moment lets look at something in plain black and white.

This weeks photo challenge with Kim Klassen is to create a photo in black and white and use one of her many creative textures. I’ve used the texture ‘organic’ and just love the extra softness of the edges. I also love the dappled texture of the eggs.

The title for this photo is Marshmallow Velvet…I’ve been creative (finally again) in the kitchen making red velvet cakes and covering them in icing and marshmallows…I love the phrase black and white in Italian…switch them around Bianco Nero.

Have a wonderful week friends…

Bay of Fires, Bingalong Bay

Catching a couple of iron birds last weekend, my destination was Bingalong Bay, a region on the north east coast of Tasmania. The Bay of Fires is world renowned for its extraordinary natural beauty, intense colours and dramatic luminous light.

The coast line is an area of sun drenched beaches and is broken by famous orange lichen covered granite rock formations.

And a walk at sunset, it was discovered these lichen covered rocks turn a bright flashy red. Incredible to witness and one of natures truly magnificent magical moments.

Striking Pinks

Original photo: Yvettes Twistedvines + kkhappy heart texture.

For the last month I have been receiving a ‘daily truth from the Brave Girls Club’. By subscription you receive each day a free gift of words, and I so wanted to share these words with you…and share a happy heart with me.

Dear Sweetheart Girl,
When living a brave and uncommon life, things are never going to be the same, ever. We are constantly learning the new ways to do things, and the best ways to do things. We are often surviving through broken heartedness and growing stronger to get us to the next path of growth.
We are always seeing new and beautiful things, and extracting the gifts, lessons and beauty out of everything, including the painful parts.
We are always always always becoming, always. We were never meant to stay stagnant. We were never meant to “arrive” and to stay in the same place forever. Life’s greatest joy comes in creating and being a creation, in creating things that did not exist before we played our part in creating them, and in becoming a creation that never existed until we grew into it, and in seeing everything around us constantly becoming something that never existed until that moment. Life is truly about becoming.
Enjoy it, dear friend. All of it. Tomorrow it will be different, and different the day after that. It is ALL meant to be enjoyed, learned from and taken in as a gift. Receive it with all of the love it was intended to give.
You are so important, loved and wonderful.

White eDition

I thought I would have found a little more time this week to do the things I love…but here I am and it’s Friday tomorrow.

This weeks Texture Tuesday with Kim Klassen was to use one of Kims fabulous textures and the image to centre around the colour White…White, my favourite colour, light, purity, clean crisp white.

Some weeks ago,(actually, the truth maybe now a month ago) I was visiting a place so dear to my heart a beautiful place where friends have gathered, laughed and cried. A place where I find refuge amongst the Australian eucalypts and cool soft nightly breezes. Awaken to the king of roosters and hear the symphonies of birds, and the cry of peacocks.Yes, that cry of peacocks…a bevy of peacocks. They are beautiful, but oh!, such a piercing loud call.

This beautiful white feather belongs to a white peahen, who surrounded by her peachicks and many a striking peacock, wanders around the estate, although they constantly call to each other they have a  peaceful and harmonious feeling surrounding them as they freely walk around. The first thing that comes to mind are the males beautiful colourful feathers and their long flowing ‘trainì of tail feathers. Just beautiful.

Stop and listen to the music…

Did you actually look up into the sky today, out of a window, and notice natures beauty. Did you hear the birds outside or see the smile on a beautiful face today. If you had the choice to listen to beautiful sweet violin strings for a few seconds would you do it? How would you respond..would you have or make the time to stop? Would your heart smile and your eyes look up and feel the the sweetness of strings playing a melody? Time is precious, yes, but we should all find time to see and feel beauty each and every day…

A flowers petals, a changing colour in a leaf, the perfume of freshly ground coffee…or did we just grab that coffee, follow the same route to work, raced because a green light turned red, or flipped because the cue was to long ….

I found this article and wanted to share it with you, would you notice something out of place in your early morning routine of getting to work…would you hear the sweet sound and melody of a violin…would you even notice the violinist from the corner of your eye as you sped to the escalator….the experiment had been set by The Washington Post, why not reach for a coffee, or something a little more soothing and take the time to read this article….come back and tell me what you think…

Mulberry Joy- Felicity eDition

Helllo friends,

Another Texture Tuesday Challenge with Kim Klassen…

…and another whirling couple of weeks for me. Do you have those days when you think you have something in the palm of your hand, but really its only in fingertips reach…I know in my mind that lifes little triggers of wisdom come from lifes lessons, we grow stronger, we find our inner selves and voices, and striving for that new job, that new creative thread…these lessons make us grow and become a stronger person. The road is never ever straight, its winding with crossroads, and if we take the wrong turn, we need the courage and strength from the lesson learnt to turn around and start again. Pick up the pieces…and start again.

This challenge with Kim was to use one of her fabulous textures: ‘felicity’. It came to mind the Italian word felicità which means joy, happiness and picking these mulberries fresh from the tree was just that. A happy time, full of giggles and laughter, climbing ladders and eating these little morsels of sweet joy.

Hydrangea’s have always been a favourite of mine, but have never had them in my garden..these were snipped from the neighbours garden. Just Beautiful, they remind me of my grandmother.

Express it…

This challenge from Beyond Layers with Kim Klassen, has thrown a spanner in the works so to speak. Once you start creating and the imagination flows freely, six little memoirs are a delight to write. Stemming from a flow of inspirational articles (Oprah magazine): 26 ways to tell your story and sites(Smith Magazine): 6 word memoirs , our challenge was to write our own 6 word memoirs…our life in six words…you can write, rewrite and express yourself as many times as you like…just in six little words.

Believe me, when you start this exercise you can capture every aspect of your life in six little memoirs from love, happiness, breakup, food, being a mum, a dad, dreaming…

It’s hard to stop at one….I wrote a few and capture one in this photo

Balance everything. Weigh only the love.

hydrangea 20121

And a couple more….

Creative hands and my heart open.

Coloured pens drawing black and white

Can’t start my day without coffee.

Ok, enough….I think you get the gist of what the challenge was about…

You might like to take on the challenge yourself and see what creative lines flow…be sure to check out the original site where the 6 word memoirs started, you might like to write your own and add yours here

“Each of us is a book waiting to be written, and that book, if written, results in a person explained” – Thomas M.Cirignano

Have a great day everyone, Yvette…x

Just enough

Starting the Beyond Layers with Kim Klassen this week. It’s been an amazing start to a new creative journey. Introducing ourselves to everyone from all parts of the world, and sharing our ‘creative’ stories, our journey of how and why we’ve arrived at this point and continue to travel and weave on life’s experiences. With no boundaries and limits we were to write our own individual creative story, honest and from within, listening to our deeper voice, however this little bird has still a few ruffled feathers, and even though my voice is small and quiet for now, in time will sing a beautiful song.

This week… our first photographic challenge was with an image…say more…with less.

Less is more.

~Ludwig Mies van der Rohe

Less colour enhancing in our photo’s, more natural tones, more light and creativity showing the viewer a more simplistic image, and captivate them in a moment of wonder.

These cotton pods have an interesting adventure story on their own. Travelling along a rural road along the fence line I could see these wonderful pods, full of natural textures screaming at me to photograph them. Enhancing a dry, harsh and hot rural backdrop, my eye still discovered natural beauty to capture behind the lens.

Have a great day…Yvette x
