TT – Let’s Celebrate

mixed dec 20115

This final Texture Tuesday with Kim Klassen and all the other participants for 2011 is indeed a celebration. One which has taken me on a journey this year celebrating all the wonderful images captured behind the lens. I’ve learnt truly so much this past year about photography, textures, the things I love and the emotions that one image can hold.

Images that when I look back over the year have made me smile, content and extremely happy of my achievements in extending my knowledge and passion for photography. Sometimes by extreme luck and good timing to capture one of natures beauties, or the persistence from within ( … the little pedantic streak in me) to get that set up shot just ‘right’.

And with the passing of this ‘changing’ year, I look forward to new things, beautiful images and life’s challenges.

A Colourful Week

I know you’re all busy just as I am for this time of the year, and we still have to wait! Always for something, even if it’s the red traffic light to turn green…to go..

And how do you feel when we see that red light turn green? Or the second that you know that green light has changed to amber and yes you have to stop! How do colours make you feel?

The cool blue, aqua colour of the ocean.(The memory of a holiday, relaxation) The green colour of a lush shady overhanging tree.(That wonderful picnic and nature walk) The rich bright colour of a sunset,(holding hands with your partner) or the grey cloudy sky of a thunderstorm (Rushing to take cover). Colours trigger emotions within us. This was one of the exercises this week in my e-course The Art and Business Surface Pattern Design.

Making a colour palette of odds and ends around the house, we had to then add an accent colour and see how visually it changes.

I love the shimmer in the coloured gold paper.

Colour palettes can be found everywhere, take a look at a couple of my travel photo’s and how colour palettes can form, and make you feel.

This colour palettes says fun, happiness, joy …laughter.

Have you ever thought of the colours which surround you..and how they make you feel. When you see a colour, how do you feel?

Are you always wearing black? (don’t worry, my hands up high..guilty of this one).

Try wearing a colour, and see the way your attitude changes, your emotions change and the reactions of others change with you!

Tell me what colour you love in your world, and how it makes you feel.

Look forward to the new starting week…

Advent Cheer

Theirs are the little fingers, who can’t yet tie a bow, theirs are the smiles that you see with sparkle in their eyes, theirs are the cheers at the time of play…a little group of friends who each Sunday we meet and say a little prayer together, play a little song, sing and dance together and learn and listen to stories. The past couple of months I have been teaching Children’s Liturgy, a little group of people with big hearts and armfuls of hugs and love…and who have also taught me to take the time, and cherish the ‘ah ha’ moments…

mixed dec 20111

Advent is a time of preparation, and the last couple of weeks we’ve been preparing an Advent Christmas wreath for the Red Cross Christmas Wreath and Tree Competition. With so many new and exciting idea’s, we decided on the Advent colour of purple combining tulle, ribbons, baubles and of course some bling,

mixed dec 20113

I made these little signs…using hot silicone glue and white paint, the words Peace, Love, Hope (purple candles) Joy (pink candle) and Christ (white candle) to hang on our five candles on our wreath. The little children had fun, placing paint on their fingers and leaving their finger prints on our Christmas baubles of bright purple, then we placed each childs name on ribbons to hang on our wreath.

Advent is a special time, and as we prepare for Christmas let’s take the time to give thanks to God for all of the good things in our lives, especially the love of our family and friends.

Joyful Blessings friends,

TT – The Gratitude eDition

I’m enjoying every minute of my new adventures, and today I give gratitude to those wonderful creative women I have met on this journey. Kim Klassen is one of these ladies, she’s always willing to give you an extra helping hand, with her wonderful textures and artistic skills. Catch Kim over at the Cafe here..with her captured photo today I could only wish that I could be closer to have that coffee with her.

The enchanting moments of my new course The Art and Business of Surface Pattern Design…has opened my eye’s to the wonderful world of patterns and colour. Rachael Taylor and Beth Nichols are extraordinary women, who for the past three weeks have had me on a new cloud and following a rainbow. Seeking new designs with nature and making me think outside the box of pattern and colour. It hasn’t been a smooth rainbow ride, but some magical carpet is taking me on a new adventure. These talented twosome are overflowing with information and the wonderful group of energized participants are all live wires. The cyber classroom is full of shining stars.

Today’s photo, well what can I say with a new attempt at texture layering, I can’t tell you how I achieved it…I got lost in the middle somewhere…but it’s a photo of one of my favourite flowers I took this morning, and Kim Klassens texture: – ‘phoebe’…the rest, the magic fairy has strutted her stuff!

With gratitude I thank everyone who visits and leaves me comments and have a great week everyone.

I’m up to Wednesday…it must still be Tuesday somewhere?

This week I’ve been introduced to the world of patterns..breaking down the shapes and patterns in natures beauty..and its an amazing world, a world we see without really looking…looking at those man made objects which surround us,walls, rusty gates and fences we just don’t see the intricate patterns within. From natural beauty of flowers, to squares and grids of a footpath we may walk everyday.

… but amazingly I am surrounded by wonderful shapes and patterns.

I love the texture of the wood behind this garden ornament.

This new journey of design is amazing, and I somehow feel a certain tranquility and creative spirit that that’s what I should be doing.

The Art and Business of Surface Pattern Design, featuring Rachael Taylor  and Beth Nicholls is inspiring me to find my own style and capture the freedom to create in any direction. After an exciting first week of finding inspiration, this week we look at sketching and using different mediums.

Photography has been a part of my life for a while but never so much as now…thanks to Kim Klassen, who inspires me in her work and life changing stories, this week we’re introduced to some wonderful creative work by Christie, and words within her creative jewelry pieces of Soar’ ‘Be Still’ and ‘Inspire’. You can check out both Kim and Christie’s work here. Words of inspiration!

Have a wonderful week everyone.

Inspirational Lesson One

Some of you that visit my blog may have seen a little icon to the right hand side of my blog, I enrolled myself into this amazing and inspiring course. The Art and Business of Surface Pattern Design, featuring Rachael Taylor  and Beth Nicholls and today I have been busy whirling with inspiration, colour, design and trying to find ‘my style’ of pattern art.

For inspiration we were to look around us…and I’m always seeking inspiration for my photo’s from no further than a few steps from my door. So a look outside this morning, I soon saw inspiration in the garden.

Continuing on with inspiration, we were then to combine this with objects we love in the form of strips and dots. What easier than to run for stationary card, ribbons, buttons, pens and paper. Some of my visual boards….

And here’s where it started to get a little challenging! It’s changing my perspective of how to look at things…I was reaching for the ‘graphics’ girl from within again and I actually had a lot of fun. The freedom of design, shape and pattern, not to mention colour, just came bursting out into so many designs.

Have a look at some of my patterns…

TT – Phoebe eDition

It’s been an inspiring week with Kim Klassen, who over the last few weeks has been talking about her wonderful inspirational week away with the group ‘shutter sisters’. Her sisterhood bonds and her dreams.

We all have dreams, I know I have many and I’m finally finding the path, the strength from within to share those dreams…

Today’s photo was taken by my niece when she visited Floriade Australia’s Spring festival. Just beautiful coloured tulips, and the curly petals I love…I called it ‘Dancing Tulips’. A photographer in the making…the texture ‘phobe’ was also inspired by one of Kim’s friends daughters…only fitting to join the two.

One for us…

I’m not sure about you, but since being immersed into the world of cupcakes, nothing is impossible, those little things once in your life are hard to get rid of.

I guess we love them even more because they’re inexpensive to make, can be made in batches of twelve, our creative mind and hands can do their work and best of all they’re portioned sized…right! We take one, no more, just one and indulge in a decadence of flavours, frostings and taste sensations. All under control!

I wanted to put a little pizzazz on that little cupcake…made for ‘little’ grown ups and a little surprise for those taste buds.
