Mulberry Joy- Felicity eDition

Helllo friends, Another Texture Tuesday Challenge with Kim Klassen… …and another whirling couple of weeks for me. Do you have those days when you think you have something in the palm of your hand, but really its only in fingertips reach…I know in my mind that lifes little triggers of wisdom come from lifes lessons, we grow stronger, we find our inner selves and voices, and striving for that new job, that new creative thread…these lessons make us grow and become a stronger person. The road is never ever straight, its winding with crossroads, and if we take the wrong turn, we need the courage and strength from the lesson learnt to turn around and start again. Pick up the pieces…and start again. This challenge with Kim was to use one of her fabulous textures: ‘felicity’. It came to mind the Italian word felicità which means joy, happiness and picking these mulberries fresh from the tree was just that. A happy time, full of giggles and laughter, climbing ladders and eating these little morsels …

Alive

As she sits in front of her lifeline to a magical world of people with talents, inspirations and affirmations. She sits on a shaken limb of doubt and fear. In her mind, there are inner voices , some soft whispers, others roaring screams. A childhood memory carved deep within, a world of competition, innocence and sadness. A destructive world feeling second best, of non achieving, playing with shadows. The faded memories of laughter and song, of happiness. Memories that she thought had been pushed behind a high sturdy wall, never to crumble, memories that had been locked away in a box and the key thrown away, never to be opened again. She knows how hard it’s been to block out those voices and dance in front of those shadows. The sacrifices that she’s made and new promises that she’s kept to herself, to never go back to that world. So why, is life a circle? Why do those whispers become a hum of destruction. She always thought life was a path, and at crossroads, decisions were made.  Turn …

Textures and the ever Changing Mode.

Time has passed since my last post, and I’ve missed writing in this creative journal of mine.I’ve been itching to get back into it, truth being how do I push off from this starting point? Do I have the opportunity to take a new innovative direction? Should I change anything? What are you as the reader wanting to read, see, hear? What am I really wanting to write, learn, cook, paint? Yes,I think it’s time to put some new colour into my world! How can I capture your intriguing eyes and voice? I’ve had time with family and friends, reminiscing over good food, wine, music and the younger years, and interesting enough, hearing the reactions of those dear friends to this little blog of mine. My time was also thinking about the many directions and avenues life can take us. The influences of surrounding ourselves with positive attitudes, thoughts and knowledge. Sifting through the many voices and listening to those little whispers of encouragement to move on. Those influencing whispers to strive to achieve many of …

How they look…

Joy of Love #2 Happy messengers. Even as we’re having sweltering weather outside 40+ degrees. It’s another school day, and you can always almost depend on a child to turn any day after the afternoon school bell rings into a colour of sunshine. Children seem to instinctively know when a hug or kiss and smile is needed. “Hi Zia” ( Zia:Italian for Aunty) what did you do today? Not boring them with my daytime chores. “And what did you do today at school?” A continuous melody of words, giggles, faces and laughter fill the next 10 minutes. These little messengers of magic genius let me forget the outside world and capture my time for 10 minutes to see the glimpses of their playground imagination. And even more smiles with an afternoon icy pole treat.     “A world without children is a world without newness, regeneration, color and vigor”. Stressed Out?

Take 2 cups of coffee in a mayonnaise jar… When things in your life seem too much to handle, when 24 hours  in a day is not enough, remember the mayonnaise and 2 cups of coffee.   A professor stood before his philosophy class And had some items in front of him When the class began, wordlessly He picked up a very large And empty mayonnaise jar And proceeded to fill it with golf balls.   He then asked the students If the jar was full. They agreed that it was full.   The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled in the open areas between the golf balls.   He then asked the students again If the jar was full They agreed it was.   The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else. He asked once more if the jar was full. The students …

A getaway…

This picturesque scene is by a lake on our way to Rasun di Sotto, located in the Anterselva Valley.Close to the Italian – Austrian borders. Surrounded by the Dolomites mountain range – a UNESCO World Heritage site, it’s simply a getaway with nature and a wonderful place to explore the adventure with nature and all it’s beauty. Our destination was for Hotel Alpenhof. The family Preindl share a truly home- country feeling in this hotel, a warm welcomed feeling as soon as you enter this magical place. They share their love of South Tyrolean tradition, and you find a mixture of mystical past and magical present facilities and decor. The original building was built in 1580,it was a farmstead, and there are still many original artifacts displayed in many corners of the hotel. Our room for the weekend…   Decorations throughout the hotel… This is one of the relaxing rooms…with a cozy stube, fireplace and cowhide chairs…   Hotel Alpenhof features a range of wellness facilities…all the more reason to visit. Sauna’s, spa’s, a sea water pool, …

After the Storm

The early hours of this morning we were awoken by rain, hailstones and violent winds. No electricity, alarms, sirens and an eerie, scary view from our windows.Yesterday, with scorching temperatures, obviously it was natures way of cooling things down. We were lucky in one respect only one tree fell due to these forceful winds,we were amazed that there wasn’t more damage, the vineyard survived.! One of our friends lost his whole crop with damage from hailstones. This is the tree that fell on the roadside in front of our house. After harvesting this was the first Sunday morning home in a long time for Silvano, but had to work just the same… We’ve had grey skies all day, as the hour of sun set approaches however the suns rays are dazzling and playing shadows within the garden. Oak tree and acorns…. The photo above…plant unknown   The vineyard…these are table grapes, which we’ve grafted onto one vine…   These are Pinot Grigio…   A Sunday full of daydreams, writing and reading…quality time for me and with my man… My friends,I hope you had a …

Rose Petal Pink

Pink is part of my world. You won’t find any pink in my wardrobe apart from a newly purchased pair of pink pearl earrings…on the good advise from a friend. You’ll however find pink, not lollipop pink more like antique rose pink in my house… rose frosted glassware, freshly cut pink roses, scatted pink rose petals, rose colored champagne, rose cake tins and the list goes on. However,my childhood memories are lollipop pink. The strawberry pink milkshakes and ice creams, marshmallows and hundreds and thousands. Going to the local fair hand in hand with my Nonno (grandfather) to buy pink fairy floss and maybe you remember those dollies on sticks, antique looking with plastic painted hair, wanting to choose first, the one in the pink dress. I remember my mother dressing me in a Sundays best pink crochet dress and funny enough my 21st birthday party was all pink with hand painted rose invitations, so yes pink is part of my world. Why all this talk about pink…Today I received a lovely pink  award…it’s pretty and pink…and a …
